It has been owned by Will Hamer of Cumbria Classic Coaches for over a dozen years and was in need of a little TLC, but now it is starting to look as it should.

Cumbria Classis Coaches are well known in this part of the world. As well as providing an excellent service both in terms of regular runs and other bespoke hire for weddings functions the team there also organise the highly respected and well attended Kirkby Stephen Commercial Vehicle Rally which takes place every Easter weekend.

They have a great website which is well worth a look:

The restoration of this rather lovely and unusual coach has been on-going for quite a while, and some of that progress is covered here

But a busy schedule, plus the type of sheet metal work needed, meant that the front end of the coach was a problem and in dire need of some specialist help.

In fact it had been quite a while since the front of the coach had been carefully dismantled.  Some really useful jobs had been completed, such as the refurbishment of the radiator and some welding done on the cowl, but other that that the rest of the assembly was beyond repair.

The breif was to re-manufacture and refurbish the front end of the coach to a high standard to enable the restoration to progress; future jobs will involve getting the coach running either with the current Bedford engine or a suitable alternative (these coaches work hard for their living and need to have practicality and reliability as well as charm!) as well as the mammoth task of refurbishing the interior.
